Department of Geography featured on CNA and NUS News

The Department of Geography, our GIS programmes (Grad Cert in Applied GIS & MSc in Applied GIS) and three of our undergraduate students are feature in a news article that has just been posted on the NUS webpage by NUS’s Communications Office entitled “More educational pathways to develop geoscience talent pipeline and deepen capabilities”. Here are some highlights from the article

NUS will soon be rolling out more learning and training opportunities in geospatial science following a partnership inked with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA). Geospatial science comprises the technologies and skills required to collect, collate, analyse, visualise and interpret large geographical datasets.

This partnership, announced with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between NUS and SLA at the Singapore Geospatial Festival 2023 last month, aims to support and encourage the adoption of geospatial data, services and technologies as part of Singapore’s move towards becoming a Smart Nation.

As part of the Opening Ceremony, Geography students Ryan Neo Kwang Hoe (from right), Alvina Lim Ze Hui and Goh Jian Xun presented “Autonomous Vehicles, It’s the Way to Go!” a project to support deployment of autonomous vehicles safely. It was one of the several GIS-related projects showcased by students during the Singapore Geospatial Festival 2023.
