Instructor in Geographic Information Science (Educator Track)

The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a full-time Instructor on the Educator Track in Geographic Information Science (GIS). The Educator Track at NUS provides opportunities for promotion up to the level of Associate and full-Professor and aims to attract, nurture, and retain suitably qualified and highly effective faculty who approach teaching as a scholarly practice, and who are passionate about excellence in teaching as a means of supporting student learning. The appointment will begin in January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter for a period of two years with the possibility of extension.

The candidate must have approximately two years of experience in teaching or a related activity is desirable. The successful applicant will assist other lecturers in their teaching and laboratory/tutorial tasks, co-teach and independently teach GIS-related courses (regular courses and short-term professional training) upon request. The successful applicant will also be required to conduct services and contribute to developing and operating (technically and administratively) the Department’s GIS programmes (e.g., the MSc in Applied GIS, Graduate Diploma in Applied GIS, Graduate Certificate in Applied GIS, Professional Certificate in Applied GIS, and GIS minor). The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointee will also enjoy medical and leave benefits.

  1. Full curriculum vitae, including details on education (degrees obtained), and if available, please provide your employment history, past experience relevant to teaching, research activities and achievements, honors and awards, and service accomplishments.
  2. Teaching portfolio
    a.    A Preface (maximum 300 words) that makes the case for your appointment. This should be a highly distilled summary of your key contributions to student learning, guided by your teaching philosophy.
    b.    A Teaching Statement that focuses on evidence of student learning. Note that the Teaching Statement should be no more than 3,000 words-long.
  3. Student and/or peer teaching evaluations (if available)
  4. Names and contact details of three referees (one of whom must be the applicant’s supervisor/advisor)

Qualifications

The candidate should hold at least a Master’s degree in a subject linked to Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science and have a high-level training in GIS.
